IT may be the time of year when attention is turned to the German Christmas markets in the city centre, but if you fancy finding a gifts, food and treats from a little closer to home it might be worth venturing out of town to the ever-popular Levenshulme Market, located on the shoppers’ car park by Levenshulme train station.
On Friday 20 December, Levenshulme Market will host a last minute dash night market shopping experience from 4pm-10pm for those with presents still to buy or who simply want to enjoy a good Christmas party.
The first of two special monthly markets happened this weekend with over 50 stalls open from 10am-4pm, featuring an exhaustive range of high quality food and drink with festive flavour.
Mrs Beeton’s recipe mince pies, rare books, illustrations and zines, luxury hot chocolate from Cirque du Chocolat and Christmas trees and gardening gifts from Bud Gardening Centre were just the tip of the iceberg.
Shoppers were entertained by DJs from local radio station All fm throughout the day and with a new extended seating area, mulled wine on sale and an eclectic range of street food from Ginger’s Comfort Emporium, Arepa Arepa Arepa, Diamond Dogs and Margot & Rita, the market represents a fantastic day out to start getting in the mood for Christmas, without the claustrophobia and high prices of the city centre.

Levenshulme Market is run as a social enterprise and uses the profits it makes to help develop retail skills and opportunities for residents and traders with the ultimate aim of breathing new life into Levenshulme’s high street. The market was taken over from Manchester Markets in March of this year and if this weekend is anything to go by, has been a success ever since. See for yourself in the gallery below...
