YOU can't help but notice probably the biggest fashion trend this season. Shouting from the rooftops is neon and it’s definitely for the fashion bold and brave among us.
Whether it’s a handbag, belt, pair of jeans, dress or a skirt, this spring, neon is what will make anything in your wardrobe a ‘wow’.
It can be tricky to wear over the age of 40 because the intensity of brightness can be harsh on mature skin however it is still possible keep your finger on the fashion pulse and embrace the neon trend.
If you have a darker skin tone stick with the yellows and greens whereas pink and purples are more suited to lighter skin tones. Try neon with denim for a youthful, fresh look. Electric blue is almost universally flattering to every skin tone.
This isn't neon's first time in the style spotlight of course. It’s an 80s throwback style. If you did it first time around (I'm thinking big hair and off-the-shoulder sweatshirts when Madonna was just a Material Girl) you might not be so keen to embrace the trend this time around.
But neon needn't be totally casual, it can be dressed up too. It can be tricky to wear over the age of 40 because the intensity of brightness can be harsh on mature skin however it is still possible keep your finger on the fashion pulse and embrace the neon trend.
For more grown up sophistication, team your neons with neutrals. Neons look really chic with greys and whites. Or a black and white stripe is always a perfect canvas for neon accessories. Here is my take on two completely different ways to embrace neon...
COOL
This look is fun and funky. I love the bright yellows and pink in these grungy batik print neon leggings from H&M. Team with a pop art slogan T-shirt and some old school high-tops. Continue the retro theme with a pair of classic aviator sunglasses. Prepare to be noticed.

CLASSIC
My next look is super sophisticated, teaming neons with neutrals. My favourite designer Vivienne Westwood has given a cool look to the classic cardigan. Woven with bright bursts of neon-orange, yellow and pink, this cardigan is a chic alternative to a jacket and will enliven any outfit.
Keep the rest of your outfit simple and clean with a black midi pencil skirt and white vest top. These sassy Alexander McQueen patent pumps are so elegant and are an easy way to tap into the neon trend. As this is a bold look, keep your jewellery simple and add a touch of glamour with a pair of cat eye sunnies. On trend elegant sophistication nailed.
