FOOD in facials is nothing new. We’ve been singing the praises of avocados smeared on the skin for years. And it’s not just the face either. Egg in your hair is said to make it shine and chocolate waxing is said to make... you hungry?
The latest is the Manchester Tart facial – the custard, coconut and cherries all mixed up and applied to the face. Sounds sticky, but according to the spa manager and head chef at Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa, this meeting of minds has had a tremendous outcome.
According to the team, the ingredients in a Manchester Tart are beneficial for the skin. Apple custard is high in vitamins A and C and known to help eliminate free radicals and keep skin healthy.
Coconut, the oil of which has long been used as a beauty therapy, is renowned for fast-absorbing, deep moisturising effects, helping to nourish skin. Finally the cherry – which tops the classic dessert – has plenty of acidity which, in a facial, helps to dissolve dead skin cells and revive tired skin.
Anthony Powell, Front of House Manager at Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa, said: “Our therapists can’t wait to add the Manchester Tart Facial to the spa menu.
“We’ve worked hard to pack the facial full of ingredients that will leave guests feeling fresh, relaxed – and a little bit more Mancunian than when they arrived. It’s the ideal final course after a package of treatments at the spa.”
Ladies – and gentlemen – can enjoy the healing properties of the one hour Manchester Tart Facial in the Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa for £45. Body Confidential will be testing (and possibly licking) the facial in the coming weeks.
