The 'grown up sister of H&M' will take over the former Gap unit on St Ann's Square

JUST when we thought Manchester’s high street was on its last legs (so long House of Fraser…maybe), it throws up another surprise in the form of a high profile store opening.

COS, the Vogue-favoured fashion label owned by H&M, looks set to take on the store recently vacated by GAP at 30 St Ann’s Street, just off St Ann's Square (close to SpaceNK)

The Scandinavian brand will replace the American fashion giant following its move to a larger unit in Manchester Arndale.

While there has been no official word yet from COS, council documents reveal plans to convert the store are well underway.

The arrival of COS is sure to further bolster Manchester's high street following news of Uniqlo's return

The new store will be COS’s second new opening in the North West, following the opening of a flagship store at Liverpool ONE in May.

It joins one of three brands in the H&M portfolio that have made Northern debuts recently; & Other Stories on Manchester's Exchange Street in 2016, and Arket, which opened in Liverpool ONE in August this year.

Having taken a few fashion hits in recent months (from House of Fraser to Mango and Whistles), the news of the arrival of COS is sure to further bolster Manchester's high street following the news that trendy Japanese brand Uniqlo is to open on Market Street.

Often described as the ‘grown up sister of H&M’, COS boasts more than 200 stores across 33 countries, and has a glowing reputation for luxe fabrics and modern contemporary style for both men and women.
