IT’S been two years since Castlefield Artisan Market began on a monthly basis, under and around the arches of Duke Street in Castlefield – a precious heritage area of the city.
The place is a hive of creative activity and although where we currently are is very beautiful when the weather is good, it definitely gets affected when the weather is not so good.
Earlier this year, organisers decided to up the ante and make the market weekly much to the delight of stall holders, customers and local businesses. But while the community has always favoured the Sunday browse for locally made produce, antiques, crafts, art, music, clothes and tidbits, the weather has, from time to time, been less welcoming.
As of Sunday 3 November, Castlefield Market will be setting up residence within the beautiful Victorian Upper Campfield market hall on the corner of Deansgate and Liverpool Road (behind Dimitris and Don Marco's restaurants). The move indoors, organisers believe, will make it a much more viable and relaxing Sunday day out.

Organiser Jodie Bannister said: "This will be a fantastic move for us all. We have lots of regulars and also many tourists who love the authenticity of what’s on offer from local artisans, musicians, artists and designers. The place is a hive of creative activity and although where we currently are is very beautiful when the weather is good, it definitely gets affected when the weather is not so good.
"Moving indoors will give us the weekly momentum needed to create an amazing space for locals and tourists visiting the city. We are really lucky that the council has recognised how the market serves the local community and allowed us to use one of Castlefield’s most beautiful spaces at Upper Campfield.
"We are also very excited to be holding the city’s first indoor Victorian Christmas extravaganza here starting on Friday 15 November - a fantastic festive event for Castlefield and a new indoor addition to our City’s amazing Christmas markets."
