Carlo Distefano arrived in Britain in 1962 aged 17 with £12 in his pocket, a work permit and the promise of a job at a barbershop. Yet it was great food that most interested the Sicilian-born entrepreneur and 30 years later he opened his first restaurant. The San Carlo portfolio now contains over 20 restaurants and has scooped more than 35 industry awards.
