Baratxuri at Escape to Freight Island

Escape to Baratxuri in the heart of Freight Island, serving up inspired Basque cooking in The Ticket Hall.

Each dish has been kissed by fire – cooked over embers on our mighty Basque grill or cooked in our Pereruela wood-fired clay ovens. This is proper Basque cooking – full of smoke and taste explosions.

Our Asado menu is what Baratxuri is famed for – everything from our celebrated dishes like Txuleton – a whopping 36oz steak from a Galician dairy cow that’s full of flavour and enough to satisfy two or three of the most ardent meat lovers to a whole roasted turbot – also for two or three to share. Beef short rib with sherry and Tempranillo is another popular Baratxuri classic.

The menu also includes raciones like salt cod kroketas, grilled squid or cauliflower bravas as well as meats and cheeses from our characuterie selection and snacks and nibbles that go perfectly with a drink or make the perfect introduction to a Baratxuri meal. Any dinner that starts with a Baratxuri oyster with beef fat and ceps is going to be a winner.

And of course, it’s not just about the food. We also serve a range of fantastic Spanish beers, wines, sherries, cava and Txakoli – a lightly-sparkling Basque speciality.
