After wowing daredevils for four weeks last summer, the UK’s first city centre zip-wire ride is back!
The Liverpool Wire is back by popular demand for an eight week stint launching on Saturday, 18 July. That means there's no excuse for you not to sweep down Church Street at 40mph, like a seagull with a snatched Greggs in its beak.
Cricketing hero Freddie Flintoff and Liverpool’s Lord Mayor took to the skies, helping to raise more than £150k for charities in 2014 and it’s hoped fun-loving fundraisers will beat that figure this summer.
Hosted by Liverpool BID Company, the ride will see thrill seekers ascend a 115 foot station on Church Street – Liverpool’s busiest street - before high-flying over thousands of shoppers at speeds of up to 40mph.
Delivered by events company, the Mellors Group, it will deposit breathless users about a minute later, after travelling more than the length of the premier league pitches at Goodison Park and Anfield combined.
Tracey Crosbie, events manager for Liverpool BID Company, said: ‘’The Liverpool Wire was an amazing attraction for the city centre last summer. As well as the public reaction, we were just as delighted with how businesses and their employees embraced it and used it to fund-raise for their own charitable causes. And with double the number of weeks this year, we hope it will generate even more gasps, smiles and funds for very worthy causes.’’
A go on the Liverpool Wire is £20 at the gate and £15 for charity fundraisers (you'll have to prove you are a charity fundraiser, they're not stupid).
There will also be a £5 discount for bookings made on-line and free rides will be up for grabs for those who sign up to the Facebook page.
But hang on: as usual, you don't have to worry about any of that. Sitting here on the Liverpool Confidential desk are three pairs of tickets for the Liverpool Wire, worth £40 a pair or something, which we will give to some lucky blighters with a good head for heights and for winning a competition.
Not that you have to do much. Just hit the big red button to be in with a chance of flying high in the sky.
*Liverpool Zip Wire will run from This Saturday, July 18, until Sunday, September 13. It will be open from 10am to 6pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am until 8pm on Friday and Saturday.
