The setting
Voodou on Bold Street celebrated it's 20th anniversary this weekend. It's a hugely successful operation and busy, busy, busy.

After the wettest year for 100 years (or something like that), I stopped doing battle with the hair dryer last May. There was no point in blowing my long hair straight when non-stop downpours were turning it hideous kinky every time I left the house. As a result, it hangs in scrunched in ringlets left to dry naturally with sea salt spray and smeared with Argan oil.

The lofty claim
Described as “lipgloss for your hair”, Voodou are proud to introduce Sebastian’s amazing new colourising gloss treatment, Cellophane.

Designed to shine, shade and dramatise, this gloss gives your hair a mirror shine, giving your colour, natural or dyed, a whole new lease of life.

Cellophane offers 10 great shades, allowing stylists to completely tailor the tones and colour, giving a result as dramatic or natural as you. Sebastian’s Colourising Gloss Treatment Cellophane comes in nine shades suitable for blondes, brunettes and redheads plus a clear gloss to go over your existing colour.

The results are long lasting,  up to six weeks, which has the added bonus of leaving your hair in great condition for longer. The Colourising Gloss Treatment has a protein enhanced formula and no ammonia or peroxide.

The Voodou dollsThe Voodou dollsThe reality
The state of my hair raised one or two perfectly arched eyebrows in Voodou, and in the hands of smooth operator Tammy, I could tell this was all about to change.

“Do whatever you want,” I told her, “honest, I'm not bothered,” and so she did. First my ashy brown locks were returned to Mick Hucknall red – the natural colour I left behind when I was 14. Okaaay....

At this point the song “Don't Leave Me This Way,” was running through my head, but I was in a safe place as Tammy applied a clear cellophane, from a tube, to my entire head, covered it in clingfilm and stuck me back under the lights for 20 minutes.

Result?
Rinsed and shampooed, a careful inch off the locks and blow dried straight, my hair looked like glass. And a richer auburn than initially. In fact, the light reflection was so dazzling that my layers almost looked like they'd been Photoshopped.

How about the long game?
Of course, you expect to look great when you come out of a hairdressers (it had stopped raining by then) and I received dozens of compliments that day.

For the next six weeks, my hair had the natural healthy, blameless lustre of that 14-year-old who'd never been near a bottle of dye, bleach or anything else bad for you. I could wash it and leave it to dry naturally and instead of a frizzy, rust mop, it hung in elegant, rippling waves. The red colour quickly turned into a lovely warm auburn and betrays no hint of fading even now. Well, well, Wella.

You're not getting a picture, I'm too bashful, you'll just have to take my word for it.
