GSG Hospitality has teamed up with chef Daniel Heffy

GSG Hospitality, the group behind Duke Street Market, Salt Dog Slims and Bold Street Coffee, has teamed up with Liverpool chef Daniel Heffy for its latest venture. Set amongst the landmark 18-storey Plaza building off Old Hall Street, Nord is scheduled to open in February 2023.

Nord is a destination restaurant looking to bring a new high quality food experience.

The restaurant will offer relaxed dining with a focus on ingredients from regional producers and a menu that celebrates northern heritage.

A local lad, Daniel's career includes founding the Secret Diners Club, before being appointed head chef at Buyers Club. He was also a driving force behind the successful street food concept, Cahita. Daniel moved to Stockholm in 2017 to work in the three-Michelin star Frantzén before joining the Nordic restaurant, Adam/Albin, another Michelin-starred venue.

Daniel says, “I’m incredibly excited to be partnering with GSG Hospitality on what is set to be an incredible new dining concept for Liverpool.

"For me, Nord is a destination restaurant looking to bring a new high quality food experience with professional, relaxed service to the city, focusing on mainly British ingredients and style but also taking influences from my experience in Stockholm."

Matt Farrell, co-founder and executive director of GSG Hospitality, says, “We are beyond thrilled to be working with Daniel on the return to his hometown. He’s bringing back a wealth of experience from working in one of the highest rated, iconic Michelin star restaurants in the world, which is a huge win for the city.

“NORD will celebrate northern hospitality at its finest. It will offer a sense of warmth and welcome guests with open arms through excellent service, alongside offering a menu that features accessible yet exceptional quality food with local produce running through its narrative.

"We’re aiming to create a high quality, sustainably conscious environment that everyone can enjoy and adds to the ever-growing, distinct offering in the north of the country."

Bruntwood Works purchased The Plaza in 2003 and two years later the entire building was refurbished and renovated. In 2020, Bruntwood announced plans for another makeover, a £3.7million transformation that is now nearing final completion. GSG Hospitality already operates a branch of Bold Street Coffee on the ground floor, creating a new casual dining spot for the business district.

Charlotte Wild, head of retail and leisure at Bruntwood Works says, "We're delighted that Nord will be The Plaza's restaurant offering. Led by chef Daniel Heffy it's an exciting new chapter for this part of the city. The restaurant, blended within a workplace setting, perfectly realises our vision for creating a destination at The Plaza.

"Hospitality is a vital part of our ethos at Bruntwood and this partnership showcases just how passionate we are about appealing to not only those people within our workplace community, but the whole of Liverpool, as Nord is set to become a popular city centre dining destination."

Nord will open on the ground floor of The Plaza in February 2023.
