THE OLD Guard met the new as Boots opened its doors on one of its biggest stores in the north today.

The Clayton Square store, which opened in 1988, has taken over an entire half of the ground floor area, 55,000 sq ft, in a multi-million pound refurb.

Original manager and pharmacist Alan Davies who oversaw the move from the top of Church Street/Hanover Street all those years ago, dropped in for the first time in a decade.

He was warmly greeted by surprised staff who had worked with him back in the day - especially as he came bearing gifts: prints of architectural drawings he had commissioned when the store moved into the brand new shopping mall which "regenerated" Cases Street and the original Clayton Square all those years ago.

Times gave changed and that particular end of town probably could thank Boots for staying when much else said adios and went to Liverpool One.

ew Boots boasts dozens of new high end beauty brands hitherto unseen to an Advantage Card, including Smashbox, Liz Earle, IOMA, Bare Minerals and Molton Brown.

Pat Quigley, the current general manager of the store, said: “There are so many innovative aspects of the store that I am very excited about."

The store includes a dedicated healthcare area which brings together pharmacy services, Boots Opticians, Boots Hearingcare and healthcare services in one place.  The pharmacy services available include medicine check-ups, a flu vaccination service, and support services for those living with long-term conditions such as cancer, diabetes and asthma.
