NOT so long ago, there were just a small handful of beer gardens and outdoor terraces in Liverpool. And canny experts on city nightlife all knew that one of the best was a hidden roof garden in Berry Street.

Attached to the majestic building last known as the Metropolitan, it sadly became a lost garden when the pub closed its doors.

But here’s some great news for fresh air fiends: the lost garden has been found.

Living Ventures’ cocktail and good times venue, Red Door, opened earlier this year, breathing new life into the deserted landmark.

Now the party has moved outside for the summer. The abandoned terrace has been given a makeover and Red Door has become red hot.

There’s been plenty of TLC heaped on it too. Twinkling fairy lights in jars and pretty baskets of tumbling flowers are just the start. The terrace has its own dedicated bar, soft lounge seating and a barbecue. Crucially, there are plenty of spots to duck the odd raindrop. Meanwhile, the pina coladas (£5) just keep on coming.

The roof terrace launched last Friday with dozens of people chilling into the weekend. There’s no curfew either, so you can stay out there until 4am Friday to Sunday and 2am in the week.

“We will be getting weekly food vendors in on Fridays,” says a Red Door spokesman. “It can be independent trader or any business. There will also be a monthly barbecue from our side too,”

Look out for next door neighbours Rack and Dollar and Liverpool’s undisputed king of the hot dog, Meet Frank.

Red Door says:  “So far we’ve had a great turn out.  Fingers crossed for the weather.”
