Decor

Entering the cat cafe feels like entering a building of organised chaos (and a cute one at that).

Set across three floors with a kitchen and counter on the ground floor for ordering snacks, hot drinks and sandwiches, the focus (as it should be) is on the comfort and convenience of the cats rather than us humans. We’re just here to admire their beauty.

With various crannies, holes, passageways and wall steps for the kitties to run past and bound over you, there’s definitely plenty of entertainment to be had.

Everywhere you look, there’s a cat or, failing that, something cat related such as an abundance of toys or quirky feline decor like a painting of a Napoleonic Ragdoll or a Victorian Sphynx.

Furniture is arranged in cosy little nooks designed to encourage inquisitive cats to come sit with amongst you and for those a little more shy to hide away from the hustle and bustle. It’s a pleasant little place for all involved.

The Main Event

After settling down on a sofa on the second floor, where most of the cats tended to reside, we browsed the one-page menu. A simplistic list of items that do the job; paninis, bagels, scones, cookies etcetera. Certainly enough to get you by, but let’s be honest…you’re not really here for the food, are you?

Unlike your typical cafe, this one operates on an entry charge basis where you pay per every 15 minutes you stay. We paid for an hour priced at £15 each. However, once you’ve paid your entry, you can enjoy unlimited hot and cold drinks from the menu. The only extras you pay for during your stay is your food and any treats for the cats.

We ordered a panini each (a tuna melt for myself, a ham and cheese for Lowri) and two cups of chai latte. As we waited for them to arrive we watched the younger cats leap and bound around, playing with each other whilst the older residents opted for a snooze instead.

Our drinks came, served in a wide brimmed teacup with an adorable paw print shaped sprinkle of cocoa powder atop. Just the right temperature and amount of spice, these chai lattes were just what we needed to warm up on a wet and dreary afternoon.

Shortly after our paninis arrived along with a handful of ready salted crisps on the side, a sweet touch that made the experience feel even more homely, like you were in someone’s front room. The tuna melt panini was a fair size and had plenty of molten cheese to adhere the edges of the bread together while the ham and cheese was made with thickly sliced ham and plenty of it. All being said, a suitable spot of lunch.

Judgement Day

Liverpool’s cat cafe is a cat lover’s paradise and the four-legged friends you’ll meet here are all well-kept and thoroughly looked after. It’s a great spot for young feline fanatics celebrating birthdays and older ailurophiles (that's ‘cat lovers’ to you and me) who want to quietly bask in the presence of the almighty mouser.

Grab a cuppa, find a cosy armchair and lower your blood pressure a notch or two.
