L'Oréal Blackett quizzes Topshop personal shoppers on Spring trends
“VINYL trousers... can anyone pull these off?”
Just one of the big style questions addressed at the Topshop x MCR Fashion Industry Spring trend event on Thursday 9 March.
Hosted by Confidential’s L’Oréal Blackett at the Manchester Arndale branch, Topshop’s resident personal shoppers unveiled the store’s top ten fashion trends for the upcoming season, and true to Topshop’s style the outfits were fun, playful and infinitely cool.
So what are Topshop encouraging us to wear this Spring/Summer?
Pro-woman slogan t-shirts have emerged as a summertime staple. Bold in statement but simplistic in design, the ‘FEMINIST’ tee (£18.00) has been seen on both celebrities and women’s rights protesters. Dress it up with midi-skirts and mules or funk them up in the season’s must have the shiny vinyl trouser, say Topshop.
Speaking of which, vinyl trousers (£55) are steadily becoming the funkier alternative to old faithful leather trews, but is there any way to wear PVC without looking like a dominatrix on downtime? Topshop advise keeping the rest of the outfit simple and allowing the trousers to do most of the talking.
Other key trends are blogger-favourite, the metallic boot, plus gingham shirts and skirts.
A bestseller contender is the Topshop gingham midi skirt (£39.00) with ruffle detailing which can be dressed down with white sneakers or dressed up with fun pastel coloured block heels.
Embroidered shirts and denim have also made a valiant comeback to the fashion spotlight; once the uniform of noughties teenage girls, we’ll soon be seeing meticulously stitched floral patterns on, well, everything... and not just on Grandmother’s doilies.
For those who don’t know their vinyl trousers from their vinyl flooring, Topshop’s personal shoppers are on hand to impart their style knowledge in Manchester Arndale’s personal shopping suite. It’s free of charge and there’s no obligation to buy.
The ever popular fashion brand also revealed that their new superstore launching this month in Trafford Centre - also featuring a grand new personal shopping suite - is to be the second largest store outside of London.
