Tasting Notes
Nose
A delicate bouquet of rose, mixed with deeper cardamom and a touch of citrus.
Palate
Fruity berries merge with a floral nose to give a full-bodied, rounded gin. Bright notes ping as the juniper comes forward.
Finish
The sharpness of the sea buckthorn emerges, but once again is rounded off by berries and a juniper heart. Smooth sherbet lemon notes create a lingering finish.
Rock Rose is one of the finest Gins I have had the privilege of tasting, easily challenging the more established marques. Definitely worthy of the awards and recognition it has already received. Thank you for the experience…

Sea buckthorn
Sea buckthorn is a silvery leafed shrub that grows along the coastline and produces clusters of vibrant orange berry-like fruit, soft, juicy and rich in oils. The fruit is highly celebrated for its high vitamin C content, around fifteen times more than an orange! We, however, use the berries for their taste – gorgeously fruity yet crisp.

Rhodiola rosea
Rhodiola rosea is a plant that thrives in colder climes making it ideal for the fresh breezes of Caithness. We use the root of the plant which adds a delicate floral note to our gin. Over a thousand years ago, the Vikings would harvest wild exposed cliffs to gather Rhodiola rosea. This was thought to give them the extra strength to continue on their long arduous journeys.

Juniper Berries
Juniper is the predominant botanical – otherwise it just wouldn’t be gin! We select our juniper from two different countries. Both junipers are subjected to a vapour infusion process and the Bulgarian juniper gives lemon sherbert notes, whilst the Italian juniper gives a real warmth and depth to the flavour of the gin.

Perfect Serve
- Pour 50ml Rock Rose Gin into one of our beautiful gin glasses and top with 100ml tonic.
- Toast a sprig of rosemary to use as a garnish.
- In one of our gorgeous gin glasses add 25ml Rock Rose Gin and around 75ml tonic.
- Garnish with a curl of orange to bring out the sweeter notes!

5 stars for the gin, 5 more for the closed loop packaging, and another 5 for the customer service. The gin first: the aroma is of grain spirit, spice and juniper. On the palate, it’s dry but not bone dry: there’s a lovely warmth in the mid palate from the coriander, some zingy citrus top notes, and then a super juniper berry hit which manages to be both subtle and powerful at the same time. I particularly love it with mediterranean-style tonic and lime, by the way – although the recommended serves are also great. The closed loop packaging is genius – tip your pouch into your bottle once it’s empty, and post the pouch back to the distillery, no stamp needed. The ordering and delivery process (which I’ve been through several times now) are hassle-free and rapid respectively. Finally, knowing this part of the world as I do, there’s an added pleasure from each drink, which comes from supporting an environmentally responsible business in an area where employment is desperately needed. What a breath of fresh Scottish air! With so many artificially flavoured and cheaply made gins on the market now days its hard to cut through to find the good stuff, but you can stop the search here! This gin doesn’t need lashings of tonic to enjoy, it’s sophisticated with beautiful subtle flavours and is so smooth. This gin is so smooth and refreshing! My ‘go to’ drink is usually gin and I can honestly say Rock Rose is one of the best I’ve had! I know what I’ll be drinking over Christmas!!!

I can honestly say this is the nicest gin I have ever tasted. I find other high end gins still have quite a harshness to their taste however this Rock Rose Gin is very subtle and you can really taste the fragrant botanicals. This will definitely be my new go to Gin from now on.

I am a gin lover and this is one of my favourites! It’s such a delicate floral flavour with a smooth finish, I normally drink my gins neat, which is why I think getting a good gin is really important because it’s not hidden by the taste of the tonic. What a breath of fresh Scottish air! With so many artificially flavoured and cheaply made gins on the market now days its hard to cut through to find the good stuff, but you can stop the search here! This gin doesn’t need lashings of tonic to enjoy, it’s sophisticated with beautiful subtle flavours and is so smooth. I have received my much anticipated smoked orange Rock Rose gin and it is now my absolute favourite ! The smoky finish you get at the end is not overpowering and the orange is very subtle. 5 stars for the gin, 5 more for the closed loop packaging, and another 5 for the customer service. The gin first: the aroma is of grain spirit, spice and juniper. On the palate, it’s dry but not bone dry: there’s a lovely warmth in the mid palate from the coriander, some zingy citrus top notes, and then a super juniper berry hit which manages to be both subtle and powerful at the same time. I particularly love it with mediterranean-style tonic and lime, by the way – although the recommended serves are also great. The closed loop packaging is genius – tip your pouch into your bottle once it’s empty, and post the pouch back to the distillery, no stamp needed. The ordering and delivery process (which I’ve been through several times now) are hassle-free and rapid respectively. Finally, knowing this part of the world as I do, there’s an added pleasure from each drink, which comes from supporting an environmentally responsible business in an area where employment is desperately needed. Slàinte mhath!
