No such thing as a free lunch? Think again, says Chilli Banana

The good folks at Chilli Banana are stumping up lunch and drinks for two people in their latest branch.

Only recently opened in Didsbury, the fifth Chilli Banana brings the vibrant aromas of Thai cooking to the stunning Edwardian arcade on Lapwing Lane. The menu reflects the authentic rural dishes of founder and head chef May Wakefield’s family farm upbringing, combined with the contemporary street food found in buzzing Bangkok.

Small plates include fragrant soups, spicy salads and spring rolls, with meat, seafood and vegetarian options. Skewers are a favourite – pick from barbecued king prawns with chilli garlic sauce, chicken and homemade peanut dipping sauce, or Black Forest mushrooms.

For main course, there are various wok-fried noodle options, including the famous Pad Thai, plus Kow Pad, a Thai fried rice number. With steamed rice, there are meat and vegetarian versions of a green coconut milk curry, along with the “drunken” stir fry, cashew chicken, and Pla Sam Ros, crispy sea bass fillet topped with three sauces. There’s also May’s weekly special, for an extra element of surprise.
