It’s not all Champagne and caviar. We think we’ve found the best roast chicken in Manchester

A few weeks ago, Soho’s famous seafood restaurant Randall and Aubin, chose Manchester as the place to open their second branch. Confidential’s Gordo took food writer Deanna Thomas along to sample a few dishes from the menu and discovered there’s a lot more to the menu than oysters, caviar and Champagne.

It turns out they do a lovely half pint of prawns and a fantastic rotisserie corn fed half chicken. We also tried a few of the oysters, but which ones rocked Gordo’s boat; the French, the Irish or the English?

The issue of the day, however, was about the fish pie. Randall and Aubin are proud of theirs, but what did our writers think? Deanna says there’s absolutely, positively no need to add hard-boiled egg to a fish pie, while Gordo thinks that putting peas in the mixture is more of a Southern thing.
