Bring proof of registration to Bock Biere Café in Manchester city centre and you're in for free beer

Though it might seem a little perverse that voters in Manchester - a city credited with the birth of Women's Suffrage and one which witnessed the outrage of the Peterloo Massacre - should be coaxed off their arses to vote with the promise of free beer, such is the lethargy of the modern electorate.

Then again, if it's a choice between Theresa 'fox-slayer' May and Jeremy 'we'll find the money' Corbyn, perhaps abstinence is, on this occasion, justified. Hold on... the Lib Dems still want to legalise cannabis? Right on Farron.

More mead than weed? Then you might be interested to learn that Manchester's charming new European beer bolthole, Bock Biere Cafe, is doing its bit to encourage people to vote in the upcoming General Election on 8 June.

Register to vote (here), show proof to bar staff at the Tib Lane venue and you've just earned yourself a free beer my friend. Yes, free bloody beer - the good Belgian stuff too.

Haven't yet registered? Well, you've got until Monday 22 May, when the offer at Bock also ends.

The bar's public-spirited move follows the launch of a national campaign, 'Vote This Year - Get Free Beer', which aims to have more than 500 boozers on board by this weekend. And though rewarding voters for voting is technically illegal, rewarding those who have registered to vote is not.

Meanwhile, at the House of Commons, young voters are being encouraged to vote with the offer of a free two hour tour around the Houses of Parliament... something likely to drive you to beer anyhow. Straight to Bock for a jar of Belgian then?
