Chilled-out Easter Sunday Lunch is one of Mal’s first initiatives

HURRAH for boutique hotel Malmaison Liverpool, who have become an Autism Champion, supporting charity Autism Together and community enterprise Autism Adventures UK in their mission to make Liverpool the UK’s first truly autism-friendly city.

Malmaison Liverpool is planning a series of autism-friendly events, starting with an Easter Sunday Lunch designed for families who might normally avoid restaurants on such busy days. The hotel will host the event in its private function space, providing a calm and relaxed environment for families and with a chill-out area for kids.

The hotel has trained its staff in autism awareness so they recognise the signs that someone may have autism and appreciate the different ways people with autism may communicate. Garry Fortune, General Manager of Malmaison Liverpool, says: “We want to make our hotel welcoming to everyone, and this is an important step. We pride ourselves on giving the very best service to everyone and now we truly can.”

An autism-friendly city allows people with the condition to properly be part of the community, for example using public transport, taking part in sports and leisure activities, and eating in restaurants. In supporting the campaign, Malmaison Liverpool joins a number of other local businesses, including Liverpool One shopping centre, John Lennon Airport, Merseytravel, Everton Football Club and National Museums Liverpool.
