Veeno launches exclusive low-sugar Zero wines

Nino Caruso and Andrea Zecchino set up Italian wine café Veeno in 2013 as a place to enjoy award-winning, family-produced Sicilian wines and authentic aperitivos – the now popular post-work or pre-dinner tipple and nibble.

Delivered direct from the family-run Caruso & Minini vineyard in Sicily, where Nino’s great-grandfather Antonio planted the first vines in the nineteenth century on slopes reaching up to 400 metres in altitude, Veeno sells only the highest quality wines – and got first shout on these two brand-new low-sugar blends, exclusive to the Italian wine café chain.

The Sicilian Zero Grecanico-Chardonnay white wine is fantastic as an aperitif, it’s bright coloured and clean flavoured, characterised by white flowers, green vegetables and Mediterranean herbs.

The Zero Frappato-Syrah, half and half of each grape variety, has an intense ruby colour and a delicate fruitiness. Best served slightly chilled to bring out its fresh notes of wild berries and elegant spices. 

But as well as being tasty, the two new Zero wines are also incredibly low in sugar, with only 1.3g of sugar per bottle – compare that to 7g in a popular low-sugar Prosecco. To achieve this, Caruso & Minini have added a special yeast to the blend that ferments almost the whole sugar content – cheers to guilt-free drinking!
